Spring Break begins.
I was just waking up this afternoon, still laying there, enjoying the feeling of being warm in bed, when Barb called from work to say that our boss wanted all of three of the full-time operators to come in at 2:45 for a meeting with him. Eek!
So I got up and went nervously to work, because it's very rare for our boss to have a meeting with us, and it turned out that it was just to go over a letter from the CEO to all the hospital employees, outlining the plans to cut back on spending for the next year, because of the economic climate. Oh, is that all? It hardly affects us at all, but it was interesting.
What was interesting is that one of the budget cuts was made in the area of marketing - they are reducing the marketing budget by almost a half a million dollars. The company that Rich left to start working for himself is the company that does the marketing for the hospital, and that seems like a big loss for a little company.
Rich and I were shopping later for some basic supplies that we need when Kim is home - Mountain Dew and frozen pizza, mostly - and we ran into someone Rich used to work with at the marketing company, and she said she hadn't heard anything about changes yet, but she is the kind of person who keeps her head down and doesn't pay attention, so she wouldn't be the first to be aware of anything.
So Kim got home safely about 10 pm, and she played Animal Crossing while I knitted and watched, and now she's settling into her usual position at home - sitting on the couch looking up websites on her laptop with the Cartoon Network playing quietly in the background.
