monkeymom's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In which I wonder if this library audiobook thing is legal.

Kim has her last final tomorrow, and then she'll move back home for the summer. She has too much stuff to bring it all back in her car, so Rich and I are driving down to get her and bring some of her stuff home in our mini-van.

It's a five-hour drive each way, and we discovered years ago that audiobooks make the time pass more pleasantly, so while I was out with RA today, we stopped at the library to find something to listen to.

RA was tired (she's been getting up at 5 this week to teach early-morning seminary while the regular teacher is out of town), so she sat in the car and I went in by myself.

I didn't have anything in mind when I went in, so I scanned the racks, and then I thought of the vampire mysteries by Charlaine Harris that I like, and I think Rich will like them, too. There were only two on the shelf, so I picked my favorite of the two, but the first book wasn't there. I figured I would just fill Rich in on the story before we started listening.

When I went to the checkout desk (the mean librarian wasn't there, thank goodness), the librarian told me that the audiobook I had was actually requested by someone, but he would let me take it, and just asked that I bring it back as soon as I finish. I assured him I would bring it right back on Friday.

Then he asked if I knew that the library has audiobooks online now that you can check out for 21 days and listen to online or download them to your mp3 player? Nope, didn't know it. So he escorted me to the nearest library computer and showed me how to sign up for this amazing program, and I signed right up.

I checked out a book for RA before I left because I saw a mystery on the New Books shelf that had chocolate in the title, and she was happy to get it.

Back at home, I signed on to the library website and looked to see if I could get the first book of the vampire series, Dead Until Dark, and there it was! I downloaded it, and then I wasn't sure how to put it on CDs, because I gave Kim my iPod, so I called Rachel and she said she'd bring Ash over later to help me with it.

Rachel has been planning to come over and clean my house to earn some money to buy a video game she wants, so she and Ash came over and she started cleaning while he put my library book on her ipod, which she is kindly loaning me (and when Kim comes home she is going to give me her Nano, since she has my iPod!), and then they both cleaned while I walked on the treadmill for an hour.

So, my house is clean, and I have audiobooks for the long drive tomorrow, and Rachel can buy her new video game, which is actually a game to teach her Japanese.
