Shopping and eating, the perfect day.
I fell asleep at 8 p.m. and now I'm up at 2. This is what happens when I have a few days off, now that I'm used to working the midnight shift.
Ruthann and I have planning to take a trip to Rockford to get a Cobb Salad at Bakers Square, but it's been a while since we both had a day free to make the trip. Today was the day, at last!
We decided to look for an Asian grocery store, to buy sushi supplies, and there is a new yarn store we wanted to visit, so with the addresses and a map from Mapquest, we set out.
The quest for an Asian grocery sent us into a questionable but interesting neighborhood. We found 2 Asian groceries but they were both closed at 10 in the morning!
It was such a beautful sunny day; a huge treat after the very bad weather we've been having in the last few days, so we were just enjoying the ride, and finally we found a store by accident just as we were giving up and heading for the yarn store.
It was big and new, in an unexpected place with lots of parking! We went in and just went up and down the aisles, looking for ingredients for sushi, miso soup, and curry. It was all very exotic, and the salesgirl had a very weird English pronounciation (of what English she knew). We got lots of stuff, including some instant noodle soup that I had to buy for Rich and Kim because it was called Kung Fu soup!
After that we drove for miles and miles to find the yarn store, and it was worth the drive! I bought lots of sock yarn and some really bright stuff for a baby sweater. At the last minute I bought 4 balls from the sale basket, too. Ruthann bought a pattern and some yarn for me to make socks for her. She doesn't knit, what's with that?
Then it was lunchtime so we ate at Bakers Square, and neither of us got the Cobb Salad we'd been dreaming of. It was there, but we were both feeling adventurous and ordered something else. It was a great lunch, though.
