monkeymom's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's all about the baby.

Kim is preparing a speech for her speech class. Her previous, introductory, speech went well, and she took a box full of things that represented her hobbies and interesting things about her life, including the piece of knitting she is currently working on.

The next speech is supposed to be a demonstration speech and she has big plans for a demonstration of drop spindling, and a brief overview of wool from sheep to shawl. She would also like to show how to make a drop spindle from a CD and a chopstick, but I don't know if she'll have time to do all of it. She would like to show the finished knitting project, too, but first she will have to finish it, so we'll see if it happens. It could, because she is knitting a drawstring bag and it really is almost done.

Apparently Kim's speech teacher has recently learned to knit and she is eager to see the bag when it's done, so it will be interesting to see her reaction to the spinning demonstration.

It's that time of the school year when the kids start thinking about next year and having meetings with the counselors to plan their classes for next year, so Kim is planning now for what she'll be taking in her junior year! OMG, I can't believe she's this old!

She hates PE, as all right-thinking people do, so she was making a plan to avoid taking it for at least one semester by taking up a sport again. She's tired of cross-country, mostly because she was in constant pain during the cross-country season, so now she is thinking of taking up Golf. Her friend Catseh is on the golf team, and they stopped to talk to the girl's golf coach today. The coach acted delighted to find that Kim wants to join the team, but I think maybe her joy was somewhat lessened when Kim told her that she didn't have any golf sticks. Catseh explained that Kim was new to the sport! The coach told Kim that she had some extra clubs that Kim can use. So they'll be starting that in the spring. Imagine the joy that leaped in the heart of Grandpa when Kim called tonight to tell him that she is going to learn to golf. He is already planning to take her to play golf with him.

Then I wrote an email to my Uncle Joe, another avid golfer, and told him about Kim's new hobby-to-be, and he was as excited as a little girl! He wrote back with some suggestions for her and told her how important the proper stance and grip are. He suggested watching the golf channel (oh, how thrilling) to pick up some tips, and offered to find a putter for her in the lost clubs bin at the course where he works. So cute.

In other Kim news, she will be getting her driver's permit next week and has her first driving time next Wednesday at 5. My baby!
