monkeymom's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Grizzly bear poop smells like pepper and contains jingle bells.

So this afternoon I was playing Euchre with Rachel, when she suddenly started talking about moving back home! I pointed out that she would have to live in the basement because Rich has already made her room into an office, and she thought that would be just fine because there will be room for all of her stuff down there.

The next thing I knew, we were down in the basement, ripping up the (nasty) old carpet and draining Scott's waterbed! Rachel thinks we should have a big garage sale to clear out about a metric ton of stuff we no longer use, and we might possibly do that, but it sounds like a lot of work to me!

Later I was taking a break from the carpet ripping and the bed draining by playing Text Twist on Yahoo games, and Rachel came into the den and said she had just talked to her landlady on the phone, who told her if she could find someone to rent her apartment, she doesn't have to stay until the end of the month.

Then Rachel remembered the house down the street where we bought a chair for her living room and the mom at that house told us about her daughter who had just moved home from college and was looking for a teaching job, and we set off bravely to go and recruit that girl to rent Rachel's apartment. The girl was very friendly to two strangers knocking on her door and offering her an apartment, and she walked over to Rachel's place with us to look it over. I forgot to mention that her mother had told us before that the daughter was interested in living in Rachel's apartment building because she had a friend who lived there before and it's such a pretty place!

It was about 95 degrees and humid as we walked over to Rachel's house, and I was dying! I'm sure my face was bright red because I could feel my cheeks burning!

After we toured Rachel's apartment, we went back outside and RA miraculously pulled up in front, with the air-conditioning on high in her car and it felt like heaven when I crawled gratefully into the front seat! RA said she went to our house and no one answered the door but all of our cars were there and the doors were open, so she thought she would just drive by Rachel's place. Perfect timing!

So the other girl said she'd think it over - she doesn't have a teaching job yet, but she does have a waitressing job and eventually she'll get a teaching job, so it could happen.

I'm dreading the rest of the basement cleaning and the moving of all of Rachel's stuff again, but we'll both be relieved when she is living at home. She liked having her own place to go home to, but she never had any money because it all went into the apartment, and she was always at our house to eat and hang out anyway, so it just gave her a place to be a grownup and not feel like a failure when she called off her wedding. That was worth all the trouble and expense!

In other news, Kim is off on the canoeing trip! I hope she is okay and not being eaten by bears!
