monkeymom's Diaryland Diary

So the bear picked up the rabbit and used it to wipe his butt.

In honor of Kim being out in the woods, possibly being attacked by bears, I am including the following public service announcement, which also explains the title of yesterday's entry...

In light of the rising frequency of human/grizzly bear conflicts, the Alaska Department of Fishing and Gaming is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take extra precautions and keep alert of bears while in the field. The department has posted the following notice:

We advise that outdoorsmen wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle any bears.

We also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear.

It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity.

Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear feces. Black bear feces is smaller and contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear feces has little bells in it and smells like pepper.

Not much going on here. Rachel had some paperwork to turn in to the School of Nursing, so I rode with her to DeKalb to drop it off. I knitted while she drove, working on sock #1 of the Kroy Spruce socks. I have other things to work on, but I like the Spruce color so that's what I knitted.

When we got home I made macaroni and cheese, not the kind in a box, but the kind where you make a roux and add cheese, then stir in cooked elbow macaroni and reheat if necessary to melt the cheese. It was v. good.

I had one last Netflix movie to watch from the latest mailing, so we were going to try to watch it, although we both suspected it to be crap. We were surprised to find the wrong movie in the envelope, and delighted when we watched it and it was good. The movie we watched was Cold Comfort Farm. I read the book a couple of years ago and liked it, so the movie was actually on my Netflix list! I'm glad we watched it tonight, it really was amusing.

Kim will be home tomorrow, if all goes well and she is not eaten by bears.
