monkeymom's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh, and Scott went to see Serenity and loved it.

We had planned to go to Michigan over the holiday weekend, but everyone was tired, and Rachel needed to study, so we stayed home, ate turkey dinner leftovers all weekend and slept a lot!

We also went to the movies; first to see Goblet of Fire, and we loved it! Kim and Rachel wore their Gryffindor scarves, and I got a good look at the new style scarf in the movie. Rachel wore the old style and Kim wore the new one. Kim didn't see any of her girlfriends there, but a couple of boys greeted her by name, so that was entertaining.

Rachel and I went by ourselves to see the new Pride and Prejudice in Rockford. It was a disappointment, but maybe we're just spoiled by the wonderful BBC version. The scenery was beautiful, and so were the homes! I would have enjoyed them even more if the camera hadn't had to pan around every scene! It was giving me motion sickness - I had to keep looking away. In one scene there was a handheld camera jiggling in the closeups of the actors' faces, another vertigo-inducing trick. Darcy just looked depressed, not snooty, Bingley was depicted as a socially inept half-wit, and I don't think think Darcy would have tolerated a boob like that for a friend! Donald Sutherland needed to shave, and Bingley needed a hairbrush. I believe the actors who played Mr. Collins and his wife, the former Charlotte Lucas, also played a married couple in Gosford Park, so that was cute. The best scene in the movie was when Darcy and Bingley were out by the river, practicing Bingley's proposal. The worst was Darcy's final proposal to Elizabeth, and her acceptance. So sappy! Oh, and the last bit with Elizabeth and Darcy, after the wedding, looking out on the grounds of Pemberly, ugh. I had to listen to Rachel complain about it all the way home! She thought it was dumbed-down; Jane Austen for the masses!

We watched two more movies at home on DVD, so altogether I saw four movies this weekend. I got a lot of knitting done, and lots of sleep, so I had a good weekend!
