monkeymom's Diaryland Diary

\"Hey kids, who's not real??\" \"Santa!\"

Scott got here on Friday after his flight was delayed for two hours because of snow in Chicago. Rich and Rachel picked him up and Kim stayed home to rest play video games while I napped.

Kim spent the weekend building a bridge out of toothpicks and Superglue for her physics class. I am not sure what the proportion of toothpicks to Superglue was, but I suspect it was close to half glue. My tweezers are ruined, by the way. She took the bridge to school on Monday for testing, brought it home and started to make another bridge out of colored round toothpicks so it would be more festive and also incorporate some new ideas, but then she got tired, and the glue wasn't drying, and finally she just reinforced the original bridge and went to bed.

She brought the (broken) bridge home on Tuesday and said she was probably going to get a B, but possibly an A, so we'll see. Her bridge was able to support 18 lbs! Then she fell asleep on the couch in the den with the TV blaring the Cartoon Network, and slept for the next 4 hours. She was exhausted from all those late nights building bridges and inhaling glue fumes.

Rachel had a bunch of people over to play games and eat tacos, and then they all left to go caroling. Kim slept through all of their noise, and I went to bed as soon as they left. RA told me today that she came by our house and knocked, but there was no answer, even though all the lights were on and the TV was going. Hey! We were sleeping!

So it's nice having everyone home now for Christmas break. We have been taking turns playing video games on the Gamecube - Kim is playing Fire Emblem, Scott is playing Zelda Wind Walker and Rachel and I are playing Animal Crossing.

We have a pile of 5 movies borrowed from my movie friend at work, plus two Netflix and another one on the way, so I am confidently expecting to have the (damned) afghan done in a week so we can take it to Michigan. The squares are at 30/50, or maybe a couple more, and tonight I am taking a break to knit a pair of mittens for RA to go with her Christmas scarf.

We were all feeling a bit Scrooge-ish and not wanting to bother with decorating the house and putting up a tree, but today I accidently found a couple of decorations, so Scott put them in the living room, and tomorrow we're going to put Kim's little tree on a table in the living room, wrap some presents to go under it, and call it Christmas! Nobody wanted to bother with a real tree, and anyway, we're going out of town next week and I don't want to leave a fire hazard real tree standing in the living room while we're gone.
