monkeymom's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In which I have a house full of girls, but girls don't stink like boys do.

Kim has been going out and leaving her cell phone at home and it drives me crazy! Tonight I was napping and when I woke up she and her friend Ana (who has been staying at our house for a few days while her mother is in the hospital), were gone. Rich was laying on the couch watching TV and petting his dog and had no idea where they went, but at least he had the sense to be ashamed of his ignorance. I was about to dial Kim's phone, when I saw it laying on her desk! Fortunately the girls walked in a few minutes later. They had gone to Ana's house to pick up some clean clothes, then they stopped at McDonald's to see if they could get a Jack Sparrow doll (they're in Happy Meals, apparently), but they didn't have any. Then there was a terrifying encounter with a centipede in the car on the way home, and they were so panicked they could hardly pull over to knock it out of the car (god forbid they should kill a living thing)!

I cleared the bed in the yarn room (Diana's room) so that Ana could sleep there since she will be around for a few more days. Her mom is supposed to get out of the hospital next week and go to rehab for a week or so. Kim will be gone to be a counselor at camp next week, and I told Ana she can stay with us, but then she remembered that she has to work all next week, so she'll be gone, too. Ana is a very talented artist and she works at county fairs during the summer, drawing characatures (I have no idea how to spell that). So she will be away at a fair for a week.

It's no problem having Ana at our house; she's polite and quiet, and she and Kim just sit at their computers (she brings her laptop) and read stories and then they get out their drawing pads and draw anime characters. She will eat anything I cook, and that makes me happy, too. She said today that she likes to bake, so the girls might make cookies tomorrow, and I am always happy to have the smell of baking cookies to wake up to!

Catsy has been here this week, too, because the three of them are friends (Ana is the one I've mentioned before as the friend that I didn't have a name for). When Catsy came over, she brought a big bag full of manga, the Japanese comic books they all read. I'm surprised Sando hasn't been here, but they've been in constant contact with him over the internet, so it's almost the same as having him here.

Yesterday another girl phoned Kim; a weird girl that we always call Daria, partly because she has a weird real name, but also because when we first met her we didn't know her name, but she was such a Daria that it just fit. She used to be much more withdrawn, always dressed in black and wearing big black boots, but she is coming out of her shell a bit now, and I don't know if she has any other friends, but when she was dating a kid in our ward, I told Kim to be friendly with her when she started coming to church, because she didn't appear to have any other friends.

Anyway, yesterday Daria called Kim and told her that her boyfriend had broken up with her, and wanted to know if she could come over to our house to hang out today. So when I got up, Daria was at Kim's computer, Kim was sitting on a chair next to the desk, sketching, and Ana was on the couch in the living room, reading something on her laptop. They weren't talking, they were all just doing something. I don't know who I'll find in the house tomorrow.

As an amusing side story, the boyfriend that broke up with Daria this time (an unattractive pierced and be-chained kid with baggy pants who is 22 (!) and she is 15(!)), is not the original boyfriend who brought her to church. The boyfriend who used to bring her to church is 18 now and he goes to the singles ward, sporadically. Daria was baptised and so was her mother and they still attend our ward, although her mother is even weirder than Daria. So the first boyfriend, Miller, has been calling Rachel to get a ride with her and Kat to the singles ward on Sunday and he has been making dating-type overtures toward Rachel, which is hilarious because she is horrified at the whole thing and after she ended up bringing him home in her car last time with no one else there to dilute the mix, she told Kat to never allow him to be alone with her again. It took all of Rachel's tact to weasel out of that situation!
