monkeymom's Diaryland Diary

In which we learn that dogs need a night light.

We left Monday morning to drive to Utah, and just got back tonight at about 6:30. Those last three hours seemed so loooong!

We discussed some other options, but finally decided to take Buffy with us, and she turned out to be an excellent traveler. She sleeps on the floor at home all day, so it was an easy trip for her, all she had to do was sleep in the car. We found out that she is afraid of the dark, and we had to leave the bathroom light on in the hotels where we stayed. If she went to sleep with the lights on, and woke up after we were asleep, with the lights off, she wandered around anxiously snuffling until one of us turned on a light for her. What a dog.

We left on Monday morning in our minivan packed with three adults, a big dog, two harps, a cooler and assorted suitcases. RA had brought some audiotapes to listen to on the way out, and they were just long enough to fill the entire trip. On the way back we had CDs of Deathly Hallows, but we'd already listened to the first 8, and the rest lasted for only the first day of driving. Rich had brought another audio book that we listened to today, but it ended when we were still 3 hours from home!

We had a lot of fun with Scott and Carolyn and Kim, and somewhat less fun getting lost every day when we drove around in Provo. We drove up the side of the mountain one day and I took some pictures from a very scary height! We had dinner at a very good Indian restaurant, good pizza from another place, shopped for yarn (of course!), and enjoyed Carolyn's cooking, too.

Scott has an apple tree at his house, so you know Buffy liked that! We also enjoyed a melon from his garden and walnuts from a tree in the backyard. He's Farmer Scott!

We saw Kim's apartment and her very tidy room, and met her roommates. They seem like nice friendly girls, and they didn't mind rearranging the living room to make room for the harp!

I hated it when we had to leave our kids out there and drive home. The car was a lot lighter on the way home. RA had gone on from SLC to Idaho to visit her daughter, we had left the two harps in Utah, and it was just us and the dog. Sniff.

Buffy got to eat french fries every time we stopped for food, and whenever we stopped at a rest area, we took her for a little walk so she could potty, and then we'd give her a bowl of water. Except yesterday, when we stopped for the night, we realized that we had forgotten to give her any water all afternoon. When we got into our room, Rich went back out to the car for his suitcase and Buffy's water and food bowls, and while he was gone, she went to the bathroom and drank water from the toilet! She was thirsty! She drank and drank, like a camel, and then laid on the floor, bloated with french fries and toilet water. It's a glamorous life, being our dog, I tell you what!
