monkeymom's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was like driving through the frozen wilderness!

We picked up Scott, Carolyn and Soren from the airport last night and it was a long trip!

Their flight from Denver to Chicago was delayed because there was an accident on one of the runways in Denver. Scott called to tell us they would be late, but it was snowing hard here and because we are two hours away from the airport, we were already on the road when he called.

We drove on to Chicago and park in the Cell Phone Lot, where you park and wait for your travelers to call you when they are ready to be picked up. I had my knitting with me, and we had The Half-blood Prince to listen to, so it was no big deal. They were only an hour late.

So we left the airport at midnight, and we had a two-hour drive back to our town, but it was slowed down by the weather. We ran out of washer fluid, so Rich could hardly see out of the smeary windows, and there was no place to stop and buy some until we had driven for a slow miserable hour!

There was no washer fluid available at the gas station - they were sold out! Scott ran in and bought a couple of hot dogs for dinner but they were disgusting. He and Carolyn were hungry enough to eat them, though.

Rich bought some 409 window cleaner and poured it into the washer fluid container, but it wouldn't spray out, so he thinks the washer fluid was frozen up. He pulled over to the gas pumps and washed the window with the squeegee there, but when he lifted up the wiper on the passenger side, it broke off! I could read his lips, and it wasn't nice.

So we got back on the road, with a cleaner window, and it was wasn't snowing anymore, so Rich could see out the window and didn't have to use the wipers. The snow was blowing across the road in huge drifts, so driving was still a little slow.

We got home about 3, and got everyone's bedrooms sorted out. Rich and I went to bed, probably by 3:30, but we could hear the baby fussing, so we know other people were still awake. We didn't go to church this morning. Rich woke up, but he let everyone sleep.

I think we're all going to need a nap later!
