Rachel makes another cake, a batch of spaghetti, and dies playing Zelda.
I spent most of the day on the couch, watching Rachel play the original Zelda game! Yesterday she suddenly felt like playing it, so she dragged out the NES and Kim helped her hook it up, because Kim knows how to connect all of the video game machines, and she can make the DVD player work for me, too.
Then she played for a while and saved the game when we needed to go shopping, but when she turned it on again this morning, the game wasn't saved! Probably because it's old! She started playing again, and decided to just play straight through from beginning to end - a Zelda-fest!
So that's what we did all day! We found a great map on the internet, because the map we got with the game, back in 1987, is long gone, and the one on the internet had all the secret places marked, and the caves where you buy things, too, so Rachel was able to get lots of hearts and power equipment and plow through the castles, at least until I left for work tonight. Then she called a little while ago and said that castle number 9 kicked her butt. A like-like ate her sheild and she got killed by a bunny or something. Darn.
While she was playing Zelda, I sat on the couch and did some finishing work on the cabled rib vest. It's beautiful! All it needs is buttons, so I told Rachel to buy some before she leaves town tomorrow and then I packed a little kit with a needle, thread and tiny scissors in a pouch so she can sew the buttons on while she is staying at Erin's.
It was Kim's last day of school for the summer, and she went to Catsy's after school to play DDR. She's got a busy summer planned, at least until mid-July - she's got a couple of harp gigs lined up, EFY, and a dog-walking job. I hope she has time to mow the lawn!
